AVIATRIX: THE KATHERINE SUI FUN CHEUNG STORY

She defied the odds to pursue her dream of flying

    KATHERINE SUI FUN CHEUNG

    • Born in Canton, China, Katherine Sui Fun Cheung arrived in the United States at age 17 in 1921.
    • Katherine defied racial prejudice and gender bias to earn her pilot's license and become a daredevil stunt pilot during the Golden Age of Aviation.
    • She was one of only a handful of Chinese women to earn a pilot's license at a time when less than 1% of all pilots were women.
    • As a member of the Ninety-Nines, an all-womens flying club, she met legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart.
    • Women in Aviation International inducted Katherine into their Aviation Pioneer Hall of Fame.
    • The Los Angeles Dodgers honored her as a Hometown Hero.
    • She was honored with a bronze plaque embedded in the Flight Path Walk of Fame near LAX airport.
